The American Society for Photobiology promotes research in photobiology, integration of different photobiology disciplines, dissemination of photobiology knowledge, and provides information on photobiological aspects of national and international issues. Membership entitles you to many benefits, among them online access to the journal Photochemistry and Photobiology.

Membership Information

Refunds are not issued for purchase of American Society for Photobiology membership; membership is canceled when the membership term expires or if an individual requests that the membership be terminated.

We offer ASP membership to all who are interested in the multi-disciplinary field of photobiology. ASP has members who are clinicians, academic researchers, teachers, and from many other professions. Our members specialize in dermatology, photodynamic therapy, photosynthesis, circadian rhythms, UV radiation effects, and many other fields. All of our members support the goal of the ASP to promote the multi-disciplinary fields of photobiology and photochemistry.

Your membership will also support the ASP in activities that promote photobiological research and raise the profile of photobiology in the research community. This includes Photobiological Sciences Online, a free internet-based textbook on photobiology, sponsored by the ASP.

All ASP members receive:

Types of Membership:

Associate Membership is open to graduate students and post-docs interested in photobiology or photochemistry. An associate member has free online access to Photochem Photobiol, discounted registration rates for ASP and ESP meetings, and is eligible for travel awards as well as run for position on council as Associate member representative and voting privileges.

Regular Membership (online only)  is open to all professionals and investigators interested in photobiology or photochemistry. A regular member (online) has free online access to Photochem Photobiol and discounted registration rates for ASP and ESP meetings as well as run for office, and voting privileges.

Regular Membership (print and online)  is open to professionals and investigators interested in photobiology or photochemistry. A regular member (print and online) has free online access to Photochem Photobiol, receives the printed version of Photochem Photobiol, and has discounted registration rates for ASP and ESP meetings as well as run for office, and voting privileges.

Emeritus Membership (online only) In order to apply, an individual who has been an ASP member for 15 years must submit a letter stating that he/she has retired from active professional employment. An emeritus member (online only) has free online access to Photochem Photobiol and discounted registration rates for ASP and ESP meetings as well as voting privileges.

Emeritus Membership (print and online)  In order to apply, an individual who has been an ASP member for 15 years must submit a letter stating that he/she has retired. An emeritus member (print and online) has free online access to Photochem Photobiol, receives the printed version of Photochem Photobiol, and has discounted registration rates for ASP and ESP meetings as well as voting privileges.

Retired Membership (Online Only) is open to retirees interested in photobiology or photochemistry and who have retired from active employment. Has access to the ASP publication online, option to purchase a hard copy of the publication, discounted rates for the ASP and ESP meetings, run for office and  voting privileges.
